Date Night: Make It Fun For The Kids, Too
- On February 1, 2017
Many parents look at date night as a time to get cleaned up and hit the town without the little ones. Even if you love your kids more than anything, a little adult time is necessary for a healthy relationship.
Date night is going to be fun for you, but many parents have a touch of guilt about leaving their kids at home with a babysitter while they’re out enjoying themselves. Luckily, there are some activities you can have ready for your kids on date night so it’s a blast for them too.
Arts and Crafts
Almost every kid loves to paint, draw or build something with blocks. No matter what age your children are, arts and crafts are going to be a big hit. When you’ve got a good babysitter at home who can keep your children occupied, they’ll also be less likely to run wild through the house.
When you schedule arts and crafts night with the sitter, make sure all of the supplies are available before you go. You don’t want your babysitter having to search the house for supplies while the kids raid the cookie jar and paint the living room walls.
Board Games
Not all kids are crafty, but almost everyone enjoys some mental stimulation. Board games that are age appropriate make a great way to spend a few hours with a babysitter.
Have a few games ready so kids can pick and choose. You’ll also want plenty of healthy snacks on hand to keep the kids going.
Movie Night
The films that you leave for the babysitter are going to be age-dependent, but if your kids are like most, they’re going to love movie night. Best of all, movie night is pretty cost-effective for parents who already have to pay for a sitter.
To create a true movie night, have the right snacks on hand such as homemade popcorn. If you don’t mind a little candy, small packages of movie theater classics can make the night feel even more authentic.
Before you leave home, make sure you’ve got at least three movies ready to go. Remember that kids might want to change movies halfway through without finishing, especially if they’re going to be watching movies they’ve seen before.
Pizza Party
Almost every kid loves pizza. When you go out for date night, why not leave the kids and babysitter at home with a fun dinner activity?
If making pizza from pre-made dough is an option, kids can pick their toppings and be actively involved. If not, ordering pizza is still pretty exciting for most.
You might want to follow the pizza party with a movie to keep the kids entertained if they don’t have homework to do.
