Outings with a Scout troop can be complicated at times. They can’t all be going out on camping trips. Having all the Scouts together for an adventure, or even just a basic activity that will allow them to work on their merit badges can become a logistical nightmare if things go wrong.
Here are some great ideas for fun activities for girls or boys that don’t involve camping, but will still have the group together enjoying a great time.
-
Swim Party
Your local recreation center or YMCA should have an indoor pool available pretty much year round. This makes for a great opportunity for those looking to get their Swimming or Lifesaving badges.
-
Backyard BBQ
A good scenario for Scouts to pull together as a team and show off their individual work for Cooking badges, and an opportunity to enjoy a meal together as well. You could even invite the parents and have the Scouts serve the food to show their appreciation.
-
Ice Skating
While it won’t count towards the Snow Sports badge, learning the difference between a Lutz and an axel, then executing them on the ice, should count towards the Sports badge.
-
Visiting a Museum
Depending on the museum visited and the exhibits on display, any number of badge requirements could be advanced with a little effort. If you can advance multiple badges with a single visit, more power to you.
-
Go Karting
Honestly, we can’t think of a badge requirement that might be satisfied by this one. On the other hand, we have to admit that it’s something fun for boys and girls of all ages!
-
Visiting the Aquarium
You might be able to advance a couple badges here, though we wouldn’t recommend trying to finish the Fishing badge. That would be a little awkward!
-
Visiting a Water Park
Depending on what attractions are available, you might not be able to advance any badges, or you might find one that fits. Either way, it’s an exercise in fun for everybody involved.
-
Visiting Zero Gravity
Of course, we’re going to toot our own horn here. You can work on your fitness badges and you’ll have plenty of fun with your friends.
Zero Gravity respects the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations and their members in Minneapolis. We want to make sure that they can come together for some healthy fun at our venue. Please contact us for more information.
