As adults, fitness usually means aerobic workouts and being drenched in sweat after an hour at the gym. For kids, fitness can have a whole different meaning. Below, we’ve shared some tips for getting the whole family healthy, while having fun and spending quality time together.
Take a Hike (Or Just a Walk Down the Street)
A post-dinner family walk is a great way to fit in family exercise. Evening walks can start when your kids are just babies. Get out the stroller and take a walk down the street or through a park to enjoy some fresh air with your family.
Embrace Video Games
Spending an hour on video games doesn’t have to mean zoning out with a controller in hand. Several companies are making more interactive games that can help both kids and parents get more active. Find sports or dance games and create some healthy competition! Go head-to-head and find out who in the family has the best skills. Family game night just got even more fun.
Train Together and Play Together
Just like adults, having a goal in mind can motivate kids. Work towards a goal together by signing up for a race. Many longer races will include a fun run after the big event. Find runs close to home, or check out events at other vacation destinations for a trip that your kids will always remember! Train together to keep each other motivated. Be sure to celebrate when the race is finished!
Get Into Group Activities
Sometimes, exercise can be more fun when more people are involved. Group exercise for kids can be a structured activity, like baseball or kickball, or even just a game of capture the flag. While the kids are running and playing, the parents can fit in some fitness of their own. Walk laps around the field or do some yoga moves with the other parents while you watch the game.
Make it Fun
The key to encouraging exercise for kids is to make it fun. Visit Zero Gravity and get moving with a game of laser tag or dodgeball. Feeling Adventurous? Try our aerial challenge course with 17 different obstacles. The trampoline park attractions will get everyone moving. Go wild while you bounce on the indoor trampolines or test your dunking skills at the hoops. You’ll all have so much fun; you won’t even know its exercise!
